Awaji 1990 Revival of the Sanbasō Jiutai Ritual

This ritual performance of the Song of Sanbasō took place on the ground of the Sanjō Ōmidō Hachiman Daibosatsu shrine in Mihara-chō. This shrine was the religious center for the puppet tradition from the early Tokugawa period on through the early 20th century.

The Sanjō Ōmidō Hachiman shrine houses statues of the mythical progenitors of the tradition: Dokumbō, Hyakudayū, and the kami Ebisu.
