Kabuki:
There are several kinds of curtain used in the kabuki theatre. Each has different workings and different functions.
The term is also used to refer to one act of a piece in performance. A "maku" refers to a section of the performance from when the curtain rises to when the curtain comes down on a scene.
幕とは芝居の一段落のことで、幕（舞台と客席を仕切る布）が上がってから下りるまでのこと。例えば、五幕八場というように芝居の一段落を数えるときに用いる。<br>
序幕・・・最初の幕 (『仮名手本忠臣蔵』の第一段のことを序幕ではなく大序という）<br>
幕切・・・一場面、または一狂言が終わり、幕が閉まるそのとき。<br>
幕間・・・一場面、または一狂言が終わり、幕が引かれ、次の幕が開くまでの間。
