The titles of kabuki and joruri pieces. This term was common in the
Kamigata region. Interchangable with "geidai".
In Edo, the term "nadai" was used. Various distinctions in titles were
designated with subcategories such as Oo-nadai (the general, overarching
title of a kabuki play), Konadai (the titles for each maku), and Joruri
nadai, Shosa nadai and Nibanme nadai for the titles of chants, dance
pieces and sewamono, respectively.
The total characters of gedai and nadai are usually odd numbers, such as
5 and 7.
