Oda Nobunaga: A Play by Okamoto Kido in Russia

Okamoto Kido 岡本 綺堂 (1872 - 1939), Japanese author who wrote for Shin Kabuki (new Kabuki).

The play Oda Nobunaga was produced in Saint Petersburg (then called Leningrad) in 1927. It tells the legendary story of the great warrior Nobunaga. He was born in the family of a local warlord in 1534 near Nagoya, where a legend said that he would have to feign foolishness when he was young to distract others. After defeating a surprise attack by an opposing warlord from the east, Imagawa Yoshimoto, Nobunaga went to Kyoto to give orders in the name of the Shogun and Emperor. After many successful battles, he was assassinated in 1582 by his deputy, Akechi Mitsuhide, on the road to western Japan.
