In 1753 he first appeared on stage at the Morita Theater in Edo, and in 1765 he changed his name to Morita Tarobei II. In 1774 he became Morita Kanya VII and became a theater leader in November. After his father passed away in 1780, he devoted himself as a theater leader at the Morita Theater. He was skilled at dance (shosagoto), and he was active from 1753 to 1782.
