Piece Title
Kui-xing Choosing a Champion
Plot Summary
Kui-xing is a deity who decides the winner of imperial examinations.
Notes
"Kui-xing" translates to "Star of Kui"; the term originally denoted the first (or primary) of the seven stars ("qi-dou") in the southern sky. As a result, "Kui" eventually absorbed the meaning of "champion," and therefore "Kui-xing" is the deity who selects champions.

Name
Nuo
Notes
Nuo is a traditional ritualistic performance, which used to be performed at religious ceremonies. It is now mostly preserved in the Anhui province of China. The performance of Nuo in Zhichou, located in the Anhui province, resembled that of a non-extant genre, 'Za-ju', from The Song dynasty (420-479). The Nuo performed in Chizhou and its surrounding areas are usually performed in the villages as prayers for peace and prosperity in the land. The Nuo theater is also performed in Korea.
