| Component Notes |
This is the back of a cabinet card that depicts the wedding party of celebrated midgets Mr. and Mrs. General Tom Thumb (see #1003770), who were sideshow performers at P.T. Barnum's American Museum. The back of this card bears a lengthy description of the reception dress worn by Mrs. General Tom Thumb after her wedding, which took place on February 10, 1863 and was known as “The Fairy Wedding.” P.T. Barnum bought the dress as a present for Mrs. Thumb, with the intention that she would also wear it during her presentation to royalty during a trip to Europe following the wedding. |
