Notes Character types: martial arts (budogoto); acrobatics; shosagoto. Group affiliations: Mikawaya. Ichikawa Danzo IV performed at the Izumishikibu Theater in Kyoto and was popular in 1757. He took the name Kametani Torazo while performing at the Kametani Bungo Theater in Osaka. He became a student of Nakamura Tomijuro I and changed his name to Nakamura Torazo. In 1768 he moved to Edo, became a student of Ichikawa Danzo III, and in November took the name Ichikawa Tomozo at the Ichimura Theater. In 1772 his teacher passed away; he was adopted by his teacher's wife and then took the name Ichikawa Danzaburo III. The following year he became Ichikawa Danzo IV. In 1784 he went back to Osaka and performed there for 14 years. Two years later he took a travelling production in Akashi, Shikoku, and then in Iseko. In 1790 he started working in the Keihan area. In 1798 he performed in Edo again but moved back to Osaka in 1802. In 1808 he became sick while perfoming at the Ogawa Theater in Osaka and soon passed away. He was skilled at martial arts (budogoto)and acrobatics (chugaeri), in dramatic presentations, and in dance (shosagoto). It was said that he could play all roles. He was called Tomozo Danzo and also Meguro Danzo as he lived in Meguro, Edo. He was active from 1757 to 1844.
