He first appeared on stage as Ichikawa Natsuo at the Kabuki Theatre in Octobe, 1953. He took the name Ichikawa Shin'nosuke VI at the Kabuki Theatre in May, 1958 and he took the name Ichikawa Ebizo X at the Kabuki Theatre in November, 1969. Then he took the name Ichikawa Danjūrō XII at the Kabuki Theatre in April, 1985.
