||Striptease was the main staple of 20th century burlesque performances. During a striptease, a performer slowly removed their clothing, a piece at a time, while dancing. The emphasis of the performance was on the suggestion and anticipation (the "tease") of nudity, rather than on nudity itself. When the dancer removed it all (usually only down to enticing costume undergarments, rather than to actual nudity), the performance was over. After the advent of topless dancing in the 1960's, the stiptease developed into full-nude "exotic" dancing.
