備考 [主な役柄:実悪、実事、和事、荒事。屋号:立花屋、蓬莱屋、吉村屋 紋:三升の中に八の字 初め、音曲方、豊竹和泉太夫(豊竹掃部)と名乗る。1751年、二代目中村伝九郎の門人となり、中村伝蔵と改める。江戸、森田座に勤める。1761年、初代中村八百蔵の妹と結婚し、四代目市川団十郎の門人となり、二代目市川八百蔵を襲名する。評判となる。特に、助六を演じた時に使用した水を持ち帰り、飲むと言われるほど、女性に人気があった。宝暦1年(1751年)から安永6年(1777年)に活躍する。 参考:歌舞伎人名辞典 (p.115)、The Actor's Image (p.479)]

Ichikawa Yaozo II was initially a narrative chanter, under the names Toyotake Izumidayu (Toyotake Kamon). In 1751 he became a student of Nakamura Denkuro and took the name Nakamura Denzo, then worked at the Morita Theater in Edo. In 1761 he married Ichikawa Yaozo I's sister. Two years later he became a student of Ichikawa Danjuro IV and took the name Ichikawa Yaozo II. He became very popular, especially among women, and it is said that when he played the role of Sukeroku, young women took the water in which he put himself and drank it at home. He was active from 1751 to 1777.
